Meet Peter Dikih, Registered Psychotherapist
Peter Dikih is a Registered Psychotherapist with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO) and a CRPO-qualified Clinical Supervisor.
Peter has been providing counselling and psychotherapy to individuals, couples, and families since 1996. Over the years, he has worked with a diverse range of clients experiencing many different life challenges and concerns.
Central to Peter’s approach is the understanding that we are more than any one problem or circumstance.
When working with clients, he considers the whole person, including mental, emotional, physical, spiritual, social, and vocational well-being. This broader perspective allows therapy to be personalized to the individual rather than simply focused on a particular symptom or challenge.
A Practical, Personalized Approach to Psychotherapy
There is no single approach to therapy that works for everyone.
Peter uses a blend of evidence-based psychotherapy approaches based on each client's needs, circumstances, preferences, and goals. His aim is to make the therapeutic process feel clear, practical, collaborative, and personalized.
His core therapeutic approaches include:
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
CBT explores connections between thoughts, emotions, and behaviours. It can help clients recognize patterns, develop practical coping skills, and explore new ways of responding to challenges.
Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) This goal-oriented approach focuses on strengths, possibilities, and practical steps toward change. Rather than concentrating exclusively on problems, it helps clients identify resources they already have and consider what moving forward could look like.
Insight-Oriented Therapy Sometimes understanding why certain patterns continue can be an important part of changing them. Insight-oriented therapy provides an opportunity to explore experiences, relationships, emotions, and recurring patterns with greater awareness.
Client-Centred and Trauma-Informed Care
Feeling respected and comfortable with your therapist is an important part of the therapeutic relationship.
Peter's work is both client-centred and trauma-informed. This means therapy is approached collaboratively and at a pace that respects each client's experiences, needs, boundaries, and sense of safety.
Depending on the client and their goals, Peter may also incorporate elements of positive psychology and motivational interviewing, helping clients explore strengths, motivation, hope, identity, and possibilities for change.
Building Emotional Regulation, Mindfulness, and Values-Based Living
Peter also draws from principles and strategies found within Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT).
These approaches can help clients develop greater awareness of thoughts and emotions, strengthen emotional regulation and mindfulness skills, and consider how their everyday choices connect with the values that matter most to them.
The goal isn't necessarily to eliminate every uncomfortable thought or emotion. Therapy can also help people develop new ways of understanding and responding to difficult experiences while continuing to build a meaningful life.
Couples and Family Counselling in London, Ontario
Psychotherapy isn't limited to individual concerns. Relationships can experience their own seasons of stress, disconnection, conflict, and change.
Peter has extensive experience providing counselling and psychotherapy for couples and families.
In his work with couples, Peter draws from various resources and therapeutic approaches, including the Gottman Method and Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT).
Couples therapy can provide a structured environment for partners to explore communication and relationship patterns while working toward stronger communication, emotional connection, understanding, and trust.
Seeking couples counselling doesn't have to mean that a relationship has reached a crisis point. Some couples choose therapy because they recognize patterns they would like to change, are navigating a significant transition, or simply want to develop healthier ways of communicating and connecting with one another.
Is Psychotherapy Right for Me?
There doesn't have to be one particular reason to speak with a psychotherapist.
People seek therapy at many different points in their lives and for many different reasons. Sometimes there is an identifiable challenge. Other times, a person may simply know that something doesn't feel right or that they would like life to look different.
Psychotherapy provides a confidential, professional environment where you can explore your experiences, better understand patterns, develop skills and work toward goals that are meaningful to you.
Finding the right therapist is also personal. A therapist's experience and therapeutic methods matter, but so does finding someone whose approach feels comfortable and compatible with what you're looking for.
